For example, from various accounts, it seems that Mary Magdalene was a leader in the early Christian community, yet she is barely acknowledged these days by Christians and has even been denigrated at times. You have to wonder why. Perhaps because the equality of men and women was not something that was stressed in the Bible. It may have been hinted at at times, but not emphasized, and we see that it did not hold a prominent place in Christian thinking.
