It brought up memories of my having been offended by others in certain situations. I think being a Bahá’í for decades and having the teachings remind us of how to behave, no matter what, is very helpful. When I’m tempted to say something I know I shouldn’t, I often think of the admonition, “For the tongue is a smoldering fire, and excess of speech a deadly poison.” It helps.

People can reject, dismiss, or challenge statements. It is harder for people to reject a good question because you are asking them what they think about a situation. They may even see it as them trying to tech you something. It is a coaching technique I believe anyone can use effectively.
