As someone soon approaching the knowledge of what comes next (I’m 79), I must say I look forward to it, even if my life review is less than stellar. I can only imagine it will be just as well as merciful. I’m also hoping many of my questions will be answered.

It adds a question: does this aesthetic sense also exist in the lower forms? Why is it aesthetic? All kinds of interesting questions which the science knowledge only adds to the excitement, the mystery and the awe of a flower. It only adds. I don’t understand how it subtracts.”

First of all, the beauty that he sees is available to other people and to me too, I believe. Although I may not be quite as refined aesthetically as he is … I can appreciate the beauty of a flower. At the same time, I see much more about the flower than he sees. I could imagine the cells in there, the complicated actions inside, which also have a beauty. I mean it’s not just beauty at this dimension, at one centimeter; there’s also beauty at smaller dimensions, the inner structure, also the processes.

Agreed about the last comment. 🙂 What is better: adding more colours to the picture or understanding where are they coming from and how to, for example, ‘avoid’ certain ‘bad’ combinations? If the second is equally important, than ‘more colourful’ doesn’t necessarily mean extra 10000 colours in the ‘palette’… See for e.g. Richard Feynman’s comparison of an artist’s and physicist’s perceptions:“I have a friend who’s an artist and has sometimes taken a view which I don’t agree with very well. He’ll hold up a flower and say “look how beautiful it is,” and I’ll agree.

If this reality is a lesser reality that can only inadequately mimic the attributes of the spiritual realm, I can imagine that it would be “less colorful” metaphorically speaking or even literally. The fact that Bahá’u’lláh states that were we to have even a glimpse of the next stage of our existence, we could not bear to withhold ourselves from attaining that reality implies to me a more “colorful,” more exhilarating, more expansive, and infinitely (literally) more enjoyable abode. One thing for sure, none of us has that long to wait before we find out first hand and all speculation will instantly cease 🙂

By that analogy, a colourful experience in this life can be accounted for by ‘black’ and ‘white’ ‘responses’ in your afterlife taken in certain proportions…
