And yet we have examples in the Faith of the Báb, Bahá’u’lláh, and ‘Abdu’l-Bahá, who suffered so many ills for so many years, extremely unfair trials and tribulations inflicted on them, yet those difficulties didn’t make them afraid or miserable. I think we have these examples for a reason, to help us cope and make the best of our lives. I know I really hate to read about how Bahá’u’lláh suffered for 40 years, and yet He was unafraid to talk about them and called them blessings. I think sometimes we just need to change our attitudes, and life will seem much more meaningful and happy.

They can make us closer to God or take us away from Him. Looking at the world with casual eyes, it appears that pain has worked more like poison. The suffering of the innocents and children tends to become more poisonous to their being. If pain takes us to God, we must create a civilization full of pain and suffering. I think many variables, including pain, shape us, and I do not think we have a mature model to capture and predict them. We can read the holy texts and try to interpret life through them. Or we can decipher the sacred text through the experience of life. I think both are necessary to arrive at a place where we can say we know nothing. Thank you.

I understand what you mean William. There is great evil in this world, some so horrible it is incomprehensible, but who else can we turn to besides God? I may not understand Him and His ways but I have no other recourse than to turn to Him. I pray your burden is lessened and you may find peace <3

I live each day with a sense of dread for what might happen, and if I’ve become stronger and more spiritual because of all this misery I fail to see it. If anything, I’ve become more withdrawn from life and less able to cope with even the slightest of challenges. Love of God? Wrath of God is more like it.

It is true that, as you quoted Abdu’l-Baha, tests in life are the opportunities for spiritual growth.
