When I was a young Bahá’í, there was no such thing as a year of service. I would have loved to have had the experience you had. I’m sure it would have changed my life for the better and given me a strong sense of purpose in the process. When I was on pilgrimage and saw young people doing the work of tending those gardens, I knew how hard it must be. But what a bounty and blessing. I’m happy you had that opportunity.

So interesting that the principle of the equality of men and women, which many of us consider to be helpful for women, is also a principle that helps men. We shouldn’t be surprised, given the core principle of the oneness of mankind, but still, I was a little. So glad this is a subject being considered more and more throughout society. It couldn’t hurt.

This is an excellent article! I was just in a discussion with a group of intellectuals last night about this very topic! Very timely article especially with what is happening in Afghanistan and child brides as young as nine.
